A FAMILY has almost reached their fundraising goal to secure an autism assistance dog for their son.
As previously reported, Emily Lowndes, of Kings Barton, launched a fundraiser to raise money for a four-legged friend to help her seven-year-old son Stefan.
Stefan, who has autism, struggles with going to new places and changes in routine which can lead to heightened anxiety and meltdowns.

Emily believes that an assistance dog could help Stefan’s anxiety and boost his confidence levels. He already qualifies to have an assistance dog, with the family working to raise the £12,000 needed to have one provided through Autism Dogs Charity.
The fundraiser is approximately £1,000 away from its target, with Emily holding a charity race night at Weeke Community Centre in Taplins Road on Saturday, July 6 to raise the last load of money.
Mum-of-four Emily said: “Please invite all of your friends and family and have some fun, there are lots of prizes to be won so come and join us and see if you will be a winner.
“Prizes include Everyman cinema tickets, Bangkok Bistro vouchers, 2 months membership at Winchester Sports and Leisure Centre, alcohol, chocolates and much more!
“We are very grateful as the Republic of Pizza and Desserts will be providing us with some of their delicious pizzas. Thank you to Akber and his team for being so kind and helpful. Republic of Pizza and Desserts is the only Alcohol free family restaurant in Winchester, the team who own it are absolutely amazing and the most kind friendly people you will meet.
