ROMSEY Open Gate Stroke Club was recently entertained by town crier Terry Hamer.
Mr Hamer gave a talk, on Tuesday, June 18, about his life and duties during his many years as town crier.
The Stroke Club meets every Tuesday afternoon (apart from the second Tuesday of the month) and has a varied programme of events over the year.
Club secretary Joy Clamp said: “Highlights this year so far have included a visit from the Guide Dogs for the Blind, a fantastic talk given by members Diana and David Jesinger on their journey sailing around the world, Malcolm Burgin from E3, line dancing, skittles and a summer meal. Next week twelve members and helpers are going on a boat trip at Hythe with the team from Solent Dolphin who provide trips for those with disabilities in their adapted boat the Alison MacGregor.

“The club volunteers support people who have had a stroke encouraging them to be as independent as possible and giving carers an afternoon off while they make new friends and enjoy entertainment and a first-class afternoon tea.
“In July there is a picnic and a trip to Milford on Sea, with a magician and a cream tea also planned. The hall is used for something else during the school holidays so Open Gate Stroke Club restarts on September 3 with much to look forward to during the Autumn term culminating in a fabulous Christmas party.”
New members interested in joining are encouraged to contact Mrs Clamp on 07821389629 for further information.
