A charity has opened its first digital cafe to help its elderly members get more tech-savvy.

Winchester-based charity Brendoncare opened the site at Otterbourne Hill, with sessions taking place fortnightly on Thursday mornings.

The launch event was attended by a cross-section of community members, including Brendoncare workers, NHS representatives, and organisations that support the elderly.

Sam Agnew, director of charitable impact and community services, said: “We know from engaging with our members that their confidence and ability, as well as appetite to learn digital skills, varies a lot.

“Through the Digital Café, we are offering help when people want it.

"Through our wonderful Digital Champions, they have support from people who are trusted and relatable, which is often the most successful way to help them become more confident."

The Digital Champions help people in a number of different ways – from setting up their tablets, smart phones and laptops to helping them use social media.

The Digital Cafe is one of eleven Brendoncare clubs running in Otterbourne.

Otterbourne Digital Café takes place fortnightly on Thursday mornings, 10.00-12.00.

All are welcome to drop in for help on using computers.
