Residents of Shawford Springs care home enjoyed a special trip to Marwell Wildlife Zoo.

They saw Rhinos, Giraffes, and Flamingos in the pleasant surroundings.

For one resident, Richard, the journey was particularly heart-warming, having volunteered at Marwell for over half a decade prior to his residency at Shawford Springs.

He provided an expert, guided tour for his companions, regaling them with fun facts and impressive knowledge about the animals. Richard also had an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, among them Emma from Marwell's education department.

Shawford Springs, a part of Barchester Healthcare chain, provides dedicated care to 64 residents requiring a range of services from respite care to long-term stays, including dementia care.

Richard said: "I’m so happy to be back at Marwell, where I spent many happy hours learning about all the animals who live here. I loved being able to revisit the Tropical House where I spent most of my time when I volunteered."

"The day was a lot of fun, residents were able to pet certain animals on the day which was quite therapeutic, and we had great weather for the outing."
