Winchester care home residents have managed to raise almost £300 for a disability charity via a craft fayre.
The event, hosted in one of the lounges at Colten Care’s Abbotts Barton home, brought in a significant crowd thanks to strong community connections.
Handmade items such as pottery, needlecraft, jewellery, foods, and greeting cards were sold by residents, employees and local supporters.
The money raised will benefit The Boaz Project, an enterprise offering farm-based therapeutic work for adults who have learning disabilities.
Worthy Road resident Rosemary Smale contributed to the sales by staffing her own stall of handmade stained-glass gifts, harking from a long-established hobby.
Ms Smale said: "I’m so pleased with how much I sold, and it was lovely to see so many people supporting the event."
For two consecutive years, Abbotts Barton residents have singled out The Boaz Project as their main charity. Their craft fayre is just one of multiple fundraising activities for their ongoing campaign.
Representatives from Boaz had stalls at the fayre, selling crafts created by some of the adults they assist at their Sutton Scotney base, Hill Farm.
Abbotts Barton home manager, Dee Lovewell, said: "Involving our residents in their community is a passion of mine.
"It is made even more special when supporting our local crafters and our charity at the same time. We had a fantastic turn out for the fayre with stalls featuring many local craft and food vendors.
"It was a lovely afternoon full of company, laughter and the chance to buy beautiful crafts. We welcomed friends, old and new, to come and share the event with us."
The city-based Abbotts Barton and its sister home St Catherines View are coordinating a summer fete for Boaz at St Peter’s Primary School on August 3, 2024.
