A Hampshire group dedicated to empowering women and girls has a host of events organised this summer.

On Tuesday, June 25, at 10am Soroptimist International Winchester will continue their Orange Cafe at Projects, Kings Walk, with the group hoping to meet new people.

On July 6-7, members will be at the Hat Fair in the cathedral grounds where members are available to chat and offer refreshments.

Turtle Bay Restaurant in Jewry Street will be the venue of a coffee morning on August 25.

Treasurer, Julie Blackwell, said: "It’s a great opportunity for the club members to talk to visitors about our projects and create awareness of what we do, the more members we have, the more good we can do."

Soroptimist International Winchester members attend meetings at Trinity Centre in Winchester and hope to be a part of the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) initiative.

In May, the group held an information coffee morning at Rick Stein, joined by Mayor Russell Gordon-Smith and his wife Diana.

A month later, the group held a picnic for the women and families of the Winchester Women's Refuge.

Members reported a sunny day at St Swithums with some senior girls at the school talking to families.

The club is involved with lobbying the Government for women’s rights and improvements to the Domestic Abuse Bill and many other projects in the UK and overseas.

In February they took part in a presentation at the BID Network Forum.

The wider organisation also has consultative status at the United Nations and projects are reported back to the UN to continue this process.

New members are welcome.
