The fifth annual celebration of the Winchester Ukelele Festival was a resounding success as music lovers enjoyed the food, drink and music in beaming weather.

The festival promised a fun-filled family day which is exactly what attendees received on Saturday, June 8.

An array of musical talent took to the stage with styles such as blues, jazz, rock, pop, folk and even hip-hop. George Hinchliffe, the founder of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, headlined the event, and was accompanied by various other acts including Winchester Uke Jam, Hedge Inspectors, Tin Roof Strollers and many more.

Also on offer was a play area for kids, workshops, stalls selling and discussing all things ukelele, and plenty of opportunities to get some tasty drinks and food.

There was also a raffle, with proceeds from the raffle going towards Winchester Hospice, which provides palliative and end-of-life care to adults with life-limiting illnesses who live in Winchester and the surrounding area.

The event was held at Winchester Rugby Club, with the doors opening at 9am and a bar serving until 11.30pm.

Peggy Cox, 72, who was attending with her granddaughter, said: "it’s a bit different than your normal event but it’s great fun and we've both been thoroughly enjoying ourselves. The weather has been fabulous with some really tasty food and drink on offer, and the music has been great!"

David Cleen, 63, said: "The music has been brilliant, and it’s so nice to see so many people enjoying the tunes, plus the food has been a real bonus! The ukelele is such an underrated instrument and the acts here today are proving how versatile it can be to so many different genres! What a great way to spend a Saturday."
