On World Environment Day, independent children's charity, Wonderseekers, pledged its support to #GenerationRestoration, aligning with the United Nation's 2024 belief of making peace with the land.

The pledge coincides with the launch of their new sustainability strategy, established as an actionable response to the organisation's mission of inspiring protection and restoration of the planet.

Now, the organisation seeks to integrate their commitment to environmental stewardship throughout their operations.

With four key guiding principles, the charity intends to utilise its spaces, experiences, and platform to foster collaboration among children, families, schools, and partner organisations, and combat climate change and biodiversity loss.

Given the high-risk children face in the climate crisis aftermath, Wonderseekers sees its sustainability strategy as a vehicle for demonstrating how science-based actions can address environmental changes.

Its venues, like the Winchester Science Centre, will adopt sustainable design principles to promote biodiversity. Outreach initiatives will focus on equipping children with tools to respond to climate change positively. Additionally, the Charity plans to amplify children's voices in environmental issues.

As a part of the sustainability strategy, the Charity has made some essential pledges. These include achieving biodiversity net gain at the Winchester Science Centre and carbon neutrality by 2030.

Moreover, it plans to reduce its indirect environmental impacts, champion equitable access to science and nature, create action opportunities for children and families, and support environmental issues of children's concern.

Ahead of its masterplan release, "People and Planet Connected," Wonderseekers shared this sustainability strategy, reflecting its 2030 organisational and sustainability goals.

The masterplan is set to provide a detailed blueprint on how the charity will achieve these strategies.

Ben Ward, chief executive of Wonderseekers, said: "We’re on ambitious journey with our sustainability strategy but it’s one we’re excited to be on. Some of our plans are things we’ve already started, like changing behaviours to reduce our impact on the planet, but others will be new for us, such as advocating for the issues children care about.

"Communication with children, families and partners will be key to measuring our success and we’re looking forward to sharing what we learn. But we can’t do it alone and I’m looking forward to working with our funders, partners and stakeholders to achieve ambitious pledges like reaching carbon neutrality by 2030."
