A Winchester woman has celebrated her 102nd birthday with fish and chips.

Amy Lanham, a resident of Brendoncare St Giles View care home, enjoyed a meal at local restaurant Shoal on May 30 with her son Tony and her daughter Jean.

Mrs Lanham worked before World War Two as a seamstress in a shirt factory in Cheshire while acting as a surrogate mother to her seven younger siblings.

She met her husband Mervyn, a Bournemouth resident, whom she married in 1941.

The couple moved around the South, settling in Winnall and Romsey. After Mervyn died, Amy moved to Lions Hall in St Swithun Street, Winchester.

Gillian Buxton, wellbeing supervisor at St Giles View, said: “Amy is such a special lady who loves getting involved in all the activities here. She particularly enjoyed the visit by the penguins earlier this year.”
