I don't know whether you have recognised that there are two parts to the development of Barton Farm.
There is one area that is called Kings Barton which, by looking at the properties, it is assumed to be upmarket. Then there's the other side which is called Barton Farm. Almost a separate development.
Now, having visited both sites, I have observed that the roads are hardly wide enough, shall we say, to take the transports which are going to have to be negotiated. That is fire, ambulance, bus, school bus, and commercial vehicles.
As you know it's not actually completely developed into the 2,000 dwellings as yet. I dread to think of the chaos that will come, especially when the rest of the development, the commercial development and the school development, comes into play.
So the closing of Andover Road, the one road that we have never had any problems with, it takes you out of the city, out into the countryside and from the countryside it brings you into the city and of course onto the A34; to break it down will be ludicrous.
One example, Hyde Street was closed, the chaos that happened from that closure into North Walls was incredible and had to be readdressed and re-opened.
I would beg to say that this is what's going to happen with the closure of part of Andover Road to allow vehicles to get into Barton Farm development. There is no logic to it and I honestly don't think that this is going to work. They need to think hard and long about this one.
Leave Andover Road alone because you're going to have multiple problems!
In my previous letters concerning Barton Farm, I had counted 12 children playing very close to the main road. Residents have told me there is not enough of an area for children to play. The volume of traffic that is going to be very close to the front entrances to some of the properties will be intimidating.
It needs a lot of people who are proposing closure to go and have a good look at exactly what is happening anyway. As I said with the children with nowhere to go. There is going to be another school of some kind. Something has got to happen there and with the development that is being proposed for the barracks, I cannot see the sense to even consider closing Andover Road.
