PLACE LOGIC and the University of Strathclyde's Urban Design Studies Unit (UDSU) are calling on the public to help assess the walkability of streets in Winchester.
The firms' consultation is focused on various urban environments, which also include Glasgow and London, ranging from high streets to heavily trafficked roads.
They're encouraging participants to provide input by completing an online survey, which aims to gain a clearer understanding of how individuals perceive these different settings.
Alessandro Venerandi, senior spatial analyst with PLACE LOGIC, said: "The survey is being hosted on a web-based platform featuring panoramic street views of different urban environments in the three chosen cities alongside questions concerning people’s cognitive and emotional responses to the images shown.
"Data will be collected online and also offline at public events in each of these cities and we’re really excited to hear people’s responses."
The target is to create a comprehensive index that considers pedestrian access to amenities, urban form, vegetation, thermal comfort, and landscape.
This index can be a vital tool for local authorities and developers alike.
Councils could use it to improve the walkability of their streets, while developers could showcase how their plans promote sustainable lifestyles. The end goal is to build thriving, interconnected communities that break away from car dependency.
