MICHELMERSH Silver Band will perform a special D-Day commemorative concert in Romsey’s United Reformed Church.
Taking place in the afternoon of Sunday, June 23, the concert will feature a programme of themed music from Glenn Miller to Cole Porter and Queen, and local memories of June 1944.
The concert will also feature a guest piper from the Hampshire Caledonian Pipe Band.
Pipe Sergeant Philip Garrod will join the band to play Highland Cathedral in a musical tribute to soldiers of the Canadian Army’s Cape Breton Highlanders who used the band’s rehearsal hall in Timsbury as their Mess Hall prior to embarkation to fight in Europe.

The band is appealing for military veterans to attend the concert.
Claire Topp, secretary of the Michelmersh Silver Band, said: “Obviously all veterans of the D-Day landings are very elderly now, but we would very much like to invite any local veterans who are able, to join us as our honoured guests at the concert, along with a carer or companion.
“If anyone knows, or has a relative who was involved in the landings that might like to join us, we can be contacted via our Facebook page or our website msband.co.uk to arrange reserved seating and a very warm welcome.”
Tickets for the D-Day 80th anniversary concert are available to purchase from the Romsey Visitor Centre in Church Street, or by calling 01794 512987.
