A HAMPSHIRE group has vacancies for two experienced, practising artists.

New Road Artists, in Timsbury, was founded in 1990 and the group’s ethos is to foster an environment for learning to stimulate creativity, to develop practical and critical skills and to promote knowledge and appreciation of past and present trends.

The resulting style of work is modern, contemporary and abstract. They have a maximum of 14 members.

It is not a teaching group. Members’ work evolves through the culture of support and the giving and taking of constructive criticism. External speakers and members’ own talks are an important part of the process.

They meet weekly during term time for a full day’s painting at Timsbury Village Hall near Romsey.

There is good parking. They have at least one exhibition a year and the group boasts its own professional hanging system, a credit card payments system for sales, a reference library of more than 100 art books, a projector and screen for lectures.

They encourage regular formal and informal criticism of their work. Outside speakers are invited and trips organised to galleries such as Pallant House in Chichester and Southampton Art Gallery.
