FOR the third year in a row Winchester College will open its gardens to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme.
The scheme gives people access to more than 3,500 private gardens across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands, to raise money for nursing and health charities.
Last year, Winchester College raised more than £6,500 and welcomed nearly 700 people.
Over June 1 and 2, people will be able to explore: Moberly Garden – a traditional college ‘quad’; Bethesda Garden – a quiet sitting garden for the old college sick house; the gardens of the college’s war memorial, and the ‘Warden's Garden’ with its herbaceous borders, woodland, and private section of one of the most famous chalk streams in the world.

Members of the college gardening team will be on-hand to share their knowledge and expertise on maintaining these spaces, as well as the college’s wider grounds.
There will also be refreshments available in the Warden’s Garden, including tea and homemade cake.
The gardens are open between 11am and 4pm on both days, and access is via the Porters’ Lodge in College Street.
Tickets for the event can be purchased on the door, or by visiting findagarden.ngs.org.uk/garden/43675/winchester_college.
