A DEVELOPMENT of five new homes, replacing agricultural buildings, has been approved by a planning committee.

An applicant called Mr J Finnegan can proceed with the scheme, which includes car barns, garages, home offices and the extension and renovation of a farmhouse, at Casa Aquila Farm in Upton Lane, Nursling.

The plans were unanimously permitted by Test Valley Borough Council's southern area planning committee on Tuesday, May 21.

The site previously had class Q permission granted to convert the buildings into houses, meaning it had a fall-back position. The new scheme had received one public objection and no objection from Nursling and Rownhams Parish Council.

Planning officers recommended it for permission. The committee was satisfied that it was an improvement on the class Q proposal.

Cllr Philip Bundy said: “Looking at the scheme, there is no doubt it's an improvement on what's there already.”

Cllr John Parker added: “It's frustrating we have this class Q loophole in the planning system. But this application is the best we can hope for. They will be good quality homes to replace dodgy looking buildings.”
