Hampshire County Council has unveiled how £7.1 million of government money will be used to help locals with food and energy costs.

The money is part of an extended Household Support Fund (HSF) from the Government, set to run until September.

Overall, the funds will be used for food support, assistance with exceptional housing challenges, and social care support, among others.

A £550,000 will be channelled to develop sustainable food support along with community pantry networks. Citizens Advice will get £483,569 to aid households with utility bills.

Moreover, £720,000 is set aside as community grants to locally-based organisations assisting residents. Schools, colleges, and early years settings will receive £1,185,742 for discretionary support for needy families.

Cllr Edward Heron, cabinet lead member for children's services, approved the grant and said: "We are delighted that we can extend the Household Support Fund for a further six months to provide a helping hand for low-income households and people facing financial hardship.

"We will continue to work closely with other local organisations including district and borough councils, education providers, charities and neighbourhood groups to ensure that eligible households receive support with food, energy and water bills and assistance with essential household items."
