Volunteer gardeners have spruced up the garden at Jacksplace bereavement suite, Ocean, in Sutton Scotney.

Ocean is part of Naomi House & Jacksplace, hospices for life-limited and life-threatened children, young adults and their families from across central South England.

The revamped garden includes a new secluded area made from repurposed materials, providing those using the suite with a serene outdoor environment.

This setting offers an invaluable aspect of therapy, allowing families processing grief to find solace in nature. The Ocean suite allows young adults to rest posthumously in a supportive environment for their families to bid farewell.

Martina Mukerji, family support counsellor at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: "The Ocean suite is for families to be able to spend time with their loved one after they have died, before they are taken into the care of the funeral directors.

"Ocean’s secluded garden is invaluable for families to be able to sit outside and have quiet time where they won’t be disturbed. If the family are inside, then being able to look out onto such a beautiful, well-maintained garden is also beneficial and offers comfort, peace and privacy."
