NEIGHBOURS are objecting to plans to alter a Hampshire village house so it complies with permission granted 16 years ago.
An applicant called Mr M Field wants to make the alterations to the property in Highways Road, Compton, so it has the same appearance as that approved in 2008.
The work will involve reducing the height and altering the shape of the roof as well as changes to fenestration and rooflights.
According to the planning statement, 'for a variety of reasons, the structure ended up not being built in accordance with the approved plans'.
It adds that the roof ended up being built higher due to 'unforeseen complications' with insulation, potential condensation and drainage.

Proposals to retain and modify the existing structure were previously refused by Winchester City Council and dismissed at an appeal. An enforcement notice was issued in September 2022 to get the property back to its 2008 permission.
The statement said: “This application therefore seeks permission to undo the unauthorised works and modify the existing structure back to what was permitted in 2008, rather being required to fully restore the dwelling back to its former 1920’s appearance, which would involve extensive demolition and rebuilding of the property.”
By Thursday, May 16, 14 public objections had been submitted.
Frances Strange, of Compton and Shawford Parish Council, said: “The scheme is still overbearing and overdevelopment of the site, especially with the built area being on the boundary with the western property and guttering overhanging their property.
“The proposals do not significantly reduce the impact of the building on the local street scene nor reduce the massing of the building to neighbouring properties.”
The plan has also attracted opposition from Highways Road residents.
Martin McBriar said: “The size and scale of the proposed building remains inappropriate for the current street setting. The building totally dominates the entire street and is out of proportion to the existing properties, overshadowing neighbours and the rest of the street.”
Anne Sheppard said: “The slight revisions do not lessen the impact of the building on Highways Road. The building will still totally dominate the road and be entirely out of sync with all the other houses in the road. Looking more like a large warehouse than a residential building.”
