SOUTH Wonston Village Hall Cinema is returning on Saturday, May 18.
It will be showing the film “One Life”, staring Anthony Hopkins. Performances are at 2.30pm and 7.30pm and admission costs £5 on the door. Refreshments are for sale in the interval.
AN EVENING of poetry and prose about the Swing Riots is coming to St Mary’s Church, Micheldever on Saturday, June 22.
The evening, entitled Captain Swing’s Message to Micheldever, is a unique opportunity to be part of a professional performance of J. R. Ackerley’s long poem ‘Micheldever’, which is dedicated to Henry Cook, the youngest swing rioter executed in Winchester Gaol in 1831, and produced on the site of his monument and his burial.
There will also be a range of writings from Lord Byron, John Keats, John Clare, William Cobbett and Hannah More, who were contemporaries in the Captain Swing era. THE East Stratton Fete and Dog Show will take place on Saturday, June 1 from 1pm to 4pm.
The village fete will be held on the village green opposite The Northbrook Arms in East Stratton.
There will be a range of genuine family entertainment for all ages with a wide range of stalls and sideshows, a barbecue and Pimms bar, a children’s entertainer, tractor & trailer rides, jazz band and fun dog show, as well as a grand draw with numerous prizes. Car parking and entry is free.
SOUTH Wonston Parish Council and Cotswold Archaeology is holding an open day on Saturday, June 15 from 1pm to 4pm.
Taking place at the long barrow, Goldfinch Way, visitors will be able to see the new display board for the Neolithic long barrow and learn more about local heritage. They will also be able to handle and view real prehistoric artefacts, make a Neolithic-style pot and more.
MICHELDEVER Variety Group has announced its latest play.
The group will be performing A Murder Is Announced at Northbrook Hall from July 4 to July 6. Tickets will be on sale from May 20.
THE South Wonston Parish Council Summer Fete will take place on Sunday, July 7.
Kicking off at 12noon, there will be a range of attractions, including a circus, dog show, music, llamas, food and drink, stalls, a bouncy castle and more.
A PLANT sale and coffee morning is taking place at St Mary’s Church, Micheldever on Friday, May 24. The sale will last from 9.30am to 12noon.
Real coffee, homemade cakes and biscuits, and bacon sandwiches will be on offer.
MICHELDEVER Village Fete will return on Saturday, July 20.
This year the fete will be at the Lord Rank Playing Field, raising funds for the maintenance of St Mary’s Church, Micheldever. There will be a variety of stalls, including bric a brac, plants, tombola, spirits, children’s games, books, bottles and more. There will also be a tea tent and a BBQ.
The arena will feature a dog show as well as traditional family competitions.
