A GLORIOUS, sunny day greeted more than 150 people who walked around the Hampshire countryside for a breast cancer charity.

Breast Walk Ever, organised by Against Breast Cancer, raised more than £20,000 with people, in bright pink t-shirts, walking a marathon, half-marathon or 10k.

The start and finish line was in the rural grounds of the IBM Hursley on Sunday, May 12.

The half marathon took walkers on to the Clarendon and Itchen Way as well as a short section on the Pilgrims' Way, including riverside trails along St Catherine’s Hill.

The marathon took in views over the South Downs.

Richard Martin, event manager from Against Breast Cancer, said: “No complaints with the weather, it has been glorious. With the threat of a couple of thunderstorms earlier in the week, it has been great that it stayed away and the sun was shining.

“There were just under 170 people in total. We're looking to raise upwards of £20,000. A massive thank you to everyone who took part and for raising such an incredible amount of money.”

He added: “Our research is exclusively into breast cancer. We have three key projects that we fund which are around prevention, early detection and therapies. Also to stop cancerous cells spreading through the rest of the body.”

Richard confirmed that the event will be returning next year. People can still donate by visiting signup.breastwalkever.org/donate/choose
