Flowerdown Care Home in Winchester commemorated the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, facilitating a nostalgia session for its residents.
Organized by Barchester Healthcare, the residents recounted their memories of VE Day while listening to Churchill’s iconic speech, printed transcripts in hand, and witnessing historic video clips of nation-wide London-based celebrations.
The care home also presented a discussion on the different types of bonfires kindled during the wartime celebrations.
Claudia Nunes, general manager at Flowerdown said: "Many of our residents can remember the end of the war and we all know what it meant for our country so we wanted to celebrate the occasion and listen to our resident’s memories of the war and the experiences they lived through."
Diana a resident at Flowerdown said: "I remember all the family gathering around the radio to listen to Churchill’s speech telling us the war was over, it still gives me goosebumps now, such an important date. It was wonderful to reminisce and to share our memories of the day and how everyone came out on the streets to celebrate."
