The early May bank holiday was a lovely one in Bishop's Waltham with residents and locals flocking to its garden fair.

Although the extremely wet spring resulted in Bishop’s Waltham Garden Fair having to relocate to Hoe Road Recreation Ground at the last minute, it proved to be most successful, raising over £12,000 for St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital. 

The fair was originally going to be at Wintershill Hall, Durley, but organisers announced it was cancelled due to waterlogged grounds. It then got moved to Bishop’s Waltham Palace, but it was  moved again due to inadequate parking.

Finally held at Hoe Road Recreation Ground, visitors were entertained by Cuff Billett’s New Europa Jazz Band and Wickham Morris throughout the day whilst enjoying stalls offering everything from olives to handbags, candles to cardigans.

The many plant stalls did a roaring trade, with people buying not only bedding and herbaceous plants,  but also big trees from A E Roberts, who won Best Presented Plant Stall on their first visit to the fair.

Denewulf Scouts did a great job ferrying purchases to visitors’ cars in wheelbarrows. Fired Up Clay won Best Presented Sundries Stall with their lovely handmade ceramics.

A spokesperson for Bishop's Waltham Garden Fair said: "Thanks must go to Warsash Naval Cadets for their help with traffic management. With plenty of cake, pancakes and ice cream to go round, it was a very happy day."
