THE Hampshire Chronicle has a rich archive of photographs cared for by Hampshire Cultural Trust at its base in Bar End.
They date back the late 1940s and capture many aspects of life in Winchester and the surrounding villages. Agriculture employed many more people than today and it was hard physical toil, especially for the ploughman with two heavy horses.
Many aspects of life remain, albeit in different forms; there are still flower shows, chess clubs and the Royal British Legion still gather to remember fallen comrades.
If you have photos from Winchester’s past, even as recently as the 1970s and 80s, we would like to see them. Send to newsdesk@hampshirechronicle.co.uk.
