I am puzzled by the assertion from ‘civic chiefs’ that building a new Crosfield Hall south of the Romsey Rapids will be nearer the centre of Romsey once the 1,100 houses are built at Whitenap.
My rough calculations put the geographic centre close to the junction of Cupernham Lane and Winchester Hill.
The new development will move this slightly south, but probably not as far as Botley Road.
The economic centre of the town has always been to the west of the majority of the houses and this will not change when another dormitory estate is added.
I don’t know anyone who considers Romsey Rapids as part of the centre of Romsey.
It would be a shame to move this public facility away from the central hub of the town and public transport links.
