A “heartbroken” mum of a 28-year-old who died following a suspected hit-and-run in Romsey has said the tragedy has “ripped us apart”.
Police were called to the fatal incident on Winchester Hill on Thursday night when Joe Godden was found with serious injuries near The Sun Inn Pub shortly after 11pm.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and officers believe that a vehicle, which didn’t remain at the scene, was involved in the incident, police said.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin were informed and are being supported by specialist officers, police added.

Now the “heartbroken” mother has spoken out in a Facebook post urging for the driver, or anyone who may know anything about the incident, to come forward to help with enquiries.
Janette Godden wrote in an emotional social media post: “From a heartbroken Mother, please someone must know something and if it was you, you have no idea what you have done to our family, you have ripped us apart, he was my son and the pain is unbearable, he was only 28 and had his whole life in front of him, have some decency and at least now, do the right thing and come forward!"
Police are continuing their probe into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police spokesperson said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident.
“Did you witness anything, or were you nearby at the time and recall any vehicle which raised any concerns?
“Also, do you have any footage which may assist in our investigation, including dash cam, CCTV, doorbell camera or mobile phone?
“If you have any information, please call 101 and quote incident number 44240152484.”
