The Romsey Advertiser reports a campaign to encourage local Conservative Party Members to seek to deselect their MP, in favour of a candidate who supports “...proper conservative values: free speech, free markets, free people, low taxes, small government, Brexit and Britain!” (Conservative Post website) (Advertiser, April 12).
Well, this is a curious charge sheet. Apart from Brexit, that unalloyed success, I can’t recall Ms Nokes ever being against free speech, free markets, low taxes, small government or Britain.
On the contrary, she is to be commended for her excellent work on behalf of women, children, and against water pollution. If she does happen to get deselected, and cannot stand for her current party, I do hope she stands as an Independent at the forthcoming election.
We in Romsey/North Southampton have a hard-working, effective MP in Ms Nokes, and if she is unshackled from the increasingly inept Conservative government, so much the better.
