It is encouraging to read that the debate about the Crosfield Hall is hotting up and opposition to its relocation to the Rapids is gathering pace.
A sceptic of the south of town centre masterplan I hope TVBC will hold fire on plans for the bus station revamp to ensure that it won’t compromise other more successful options while the future of the hall is considered.
We need a central square and the Crosfield Hall to be a community hub in the very heart of the town centre. The area between the present bus station and Aldi would be an ideal location where a new facility could be built around a large piazza.
Open every day a new venue in the centre could become a social generator, a place to meet with accommodation for the hall and associated facilities, incorporating an interpretation area, tourist information centre, an exhibition space, a gallery and refreshment lounge. A far better prospect than the present hall sat in a sea of tarmac.
Now is the time for a really imaginative enhancement to the town centre that becomes a true public asset.
