A HAMPSHIRE school recently wowed audiences with their musical performance of Sister Act.

The Gregg School, from Southampton, took over the Theatre Royal in Winchester for rehearsals and their two performance nights.

Headteacher Sherilee Seller said: "I'm so proud of everyone involved in this performance - it really was the most exceptional showcase of the range of talents of our students, supported by our dedicated staff and families. We are very grateful for the attentiveness of the Theatre Royal staff who were incredibly supportive over the last four days."

The show had a full technical stage set up, huge stained glass window set design by their art department, handmade sparkling nuns habits, a complete lighting and audio set up.

The school provided its own orchestra comprising peripatetic staff, students and parents who accompanied the powerful voices of the young lead singers and ensembles. 

Head of music Tessa Parrott said: "The students were a pleasure to work with and we are so proud of them. There were a range of performers from musical theatre novices to experienced vocalists and everyone was blown away by their talent!

"Their energy and enthusiasm was contagious and the singers, supported by an incredibly talented group of musicians, blew the roof off in the show-stopping disco numbers and powerful ballads!"

The school was delighted that the theatre practically sold out for both performances, 

Head of drama Nicky Azor said: "It was heart-warming to see the packed theatre - teachers and families, even those without children in the production coming to support their friends, and the cast were excited that members of the public from Winchester and surrounding areas also came along to enjoy the production! Thank you to everyone who supported us!"
