Less than half of drivers who take their test in Winchester pass according to figures published by the DVLA.
According to data published by the DVLA, more than 4800 tests were conducted in Winchester in 2023, with 2568 of these being male drivers, and 2247 females.
Of the 2568 male tests, 1291 passed, whereas of the 2247 female tests, 1077 were passed, giving pass percentages of 50.3 per cent and 47.9 per cent respectively.

Overall 4815 tests were taken in the city throughout 2023, with learners passing on 2368 of these tests, giving a pass rate of 49.2 per cent.
The pass percentage in Winchester is lower than that in neighbouring towns in Hampshire where drivers can also take their tests, including Basingstoke and Farnborough.

Winchester's overall pass rate percentage of 49.2 per cent was 10 per cent lower than the pass rate in Basingstoke, where 1983 learners passed their tests out of 3349 tests conducted in 2023.
The number of tests in Farnborough was significantly higher than that in Winchester or Basingstoke, with 7812 tests taken and 4530 passed in 2023, giving a pass rate of 58 per cent
The records rank Winchester at 190 out of 328 driving test centres in the UK for test pass completion, with Basingstoke and Farnborough ranked higher at 53 and 65 in the list.
