I have always taken a slightly cynical approach to press releases.
Thus, when I read, in the Advertiser, the statement added that no final decision had be made on the relocation of the hall, I focused on the term ‘relocation’. ‘Relocation’, note – not ‘future’.
Does this mean that a decision on the hall’s fate has already been taken and that the promise of a citizens’ assembly, consultations, etc. are but a smoke screen, to blind people to this fact - a pretence that local views will be taken into account.
I leave your readers to make up their own opinion.
On a wider point in reference to Crosfield Hall, ‘if it ain’t broke, why fix it?’
