The Hampshire Chronicle has launched a new feature using our unrivalled archive of news photographs over the decades.
The invaluable photo archive, with thousands of glass negatives, is being cared for by Hampshire Cultural Trust at Bar End.
One photo features an archaeological dig something of strong interest in Winchester with dozens of digs over the decades. Recently work has been done near to the location of this photo, at the bus station.
In another photo workmen were spending considerable effort turfing the embankment of the A33 Winchester bypass. Why they did not let nature take its course was unclear. Most of the road was removed in the 1990s following the construction of the M3 through Twyford Down.
The Chronicle would love to see any old photos from the past, to newsdesk@hampshirechronicle.co.uk or to the office at 5 Upper Brook Street.
