The story is set in the court of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II. Antonio Salieri is the most famous and celebrated composer of his age. Salieri pledged himself to God so that he might realise his sole ambition - to be a great composer. Suddenly Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arrives - a foul-mouthed, graceless lout. Salieri, however, recognises in Mozart the one thing that he craves and, compared to which, he is but a mediocrity - true genius. Slowly but surely, Salieri plots Mozart's downfall.
Churcher's College returns with a new production of Peter Shaffer's play to Theatre Royal on Monday, March 25 and Alton Assembly Rooms on Friday, March 22, both at 7.30pm.
