POLICE have taken action against a city centre pub following recent incidents.
They have requested a review of the licence for The Broadway pub, on the corner of Colebrook Street and The Broadway.
A notice by the door says the licence will be reviewed. It was issued on Monday, February 19, just weeks after a man in his 20s was assaulted outside the pub, formerly known as Pitcher and Piano. An investigation was launched over the incident in the early hours of Saturday, January 27.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said the licence review related to two incidents. They confirmed they had no updates on the January 27 witness.

They said: “Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has applied to Winchester City Council to ask for a review of the licence of The Broadway venue in Colebrook Street, Winchester.
“The application for review relates to the licensing objectives to prevent crime and disorder and ensure public safety at the venue. It follows two recent incidents linked to the venue that remain under investigation.”
The licence review application said: “The city council as the licensing authority hereby gives notice that it has received an application from Hampshire Constabulary for a review under the Licensing Act 2003 for the premises known as: The Broadway, 57 Colebrook Street. The grounds for the application are: ‘The prevention of crime and disorder and public safety’.”
The deadline for representations to the council licensing manager is March 15.
Marston’s, which operates the bar, said they were cooperating with the council. A spokesman said: “We are working with the police and the licensing team to ensure a satisfactory outcome from the review.”
A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: “Following two recent incidents at the premises, Hampshire Constabulary, as a Responsible Authority, has applied to review the premises licence. Both incidents are being investigated by the police and therefore no further details will be released at this stage.”
The council has been asked to comment.
