A NEW GP surgery, currently under construction in Winchester city centre, will be up and running by the end of the year, civic chiefs confirmed.
The new St Clements' Surgery is being built on the former car park on the corner of Friarsgate and Upper Brook Street as a replacement for the practice in Tanner Street.
Construction started last March, and is expected to finish in August, with the surgery open shortly after.
Cllr Steve Cramoysan asked for an update at the full council meeting on February 22.

City council leader Martin Tod said: “If you look at the hoarding around the site, it says they will finish construction in August 2024, and we checked with them and the hoarding is correct. It will take a few weeks after that to finish the building and re-locate the surgery and the full expectation is that it will be open in the fourth quarter of this calender year.
“One of the advantages of the new surgery is they are able to bring in a lot of ancillary services. People will certainly have access to better facilities than they did before.”
The new development will include accommodate staff and patients, 15 consulting rooms, three treatment rooms, admin facilities, larger reception, waiting areas and staff parking.
