A CHILDREN’S slide has been stolen from outside a Hampshire village hall.
The item was taken from Itchen Abbas and Avington Village Hall on Monday, February 19.
Christopher Langford, chair of the Itchen Abbas and Avington Village Hall management committee, said a replacement will cost around £2,150.
He said: “Our 20-year-old wooden children’s playground climbing frame had been assessed as unsafe and we have taken it down, leaving the stainless steel slide on the ground out of the way.
“At about 8.40am on Monday, a red Vauxhall flatbed truck drove into our car park and parked near to the slide. Two men got out, loaded the slide onto their vehicle and then drove off quickly without securing it.

“The five-minute theft was captured on CCTV and the truck has the registration FE58 DUH, we appeal to anyone with information about this vehicle to contact the police.
“We were saving the slide to reuse on a new playground climbing frame, it only has a scrap value of about £40 but will now cost over £2,000 to replace and puts the whole replacement climbing frame in jeopardy.”
A police spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a theft on Main Road, Itchen Abbas.
“It was reported that a playground slide had been stolen from outside the Itchen Abbas and Abington Village Hall at around 8.30am on Sunday February 19.
“Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44240074209.”
