WORK is underway to convert a former Indian restaurant in Colden Common into a four-bedroom home.
Scaffolding has gone up around Diya, in Main Road, with Reside Construction repurposing the old restaurant as a family house.
A change of use application, to develop the property into a single detached dwelling, was submitted in January last year but required no prior approval.

Only Colden Common Parish Council commented on the application on the Winchester City Council planning portal. Parish council clerk, Debbie Harding, said at the time: “We have no comment other than it is a pity to lose another potential retail opportunity for the village.”
The planning application was made by Caldecotte Group but a spokesman confirmed that the company is no longer involved with the project.
The Diya Indian restaurant closed in January 2021 during the rise of Covid-19 but never re-opened. It had been an Indian restaurant for many years and was previously a pub.
Reside Construction has been contacted for more information.
