A PAIR of year 9 Embley pupils are raising money to go on an African adventure.
Alexa Shaw and Ané Beatty, both 13, are fundraising for their trip to Ghana this June where they will volunteer at the Little Roses School in Woe, in the heart of the country’s rural Volta region.
To do this, the girls have spent their half-term getting ready for market day on Saturday, February 17, where they will sell bracelets, as well as a range of cakes, cookies and breads from their stall opposite the Bradbeers Department Store entrance on Corn Market.
The pitch has been donated by Bradbeers, and Alexa and Ané are hoping for a strong turnout from school friends, family and local shoppers.

The pair said: “We are really excited to go and volunteer in Ghana this summer and are hoping we can raise some money to support us. Ghana is a really beautiful, vibrant and interesting country and we have a wonderful opportunity to work with local people on some community projects.
“It will be great to participate in Romsey market to help us achieve our goal and we look forward to talking with local people about what a worthy place it is to support.”
In addition to volunteering at the Little Roses School, the girls and Embley will also be donating equipment including stationery, sanitary products and sports goods.
Little Roses School educates children between the ages of five and 16 but faces constant shortages of basic equipment including textbooks. Alexa and Anés’ volunteering efforts will include teaching and sports coaching as well as building and renovation work.
