A MAN has been fined more than £3,000 for flytipping in the Winchester district.
Joseph Martin Maughan, of Stephenson Way, Crawley, Sussex, pleaded guilty to the offence at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 6.
Evidence was supplied by police, who witnessed soil coming from the rear of the 41-year-old's tipper truck in Widley Walk in Purbrook, Waterlooville in April 2022.
Maughan has been fined £933, and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £2,247.47 and a victim surcharge of £93, making a total of £3,273.47.
This is the third successful fly-tipping prosecution for Winchester City Council in four months.

Winchester City Council Deputy Leader and cabinet member for finance and performance, Cllr Neil Cutler, said: “Winchester City Council will seek to prosecute anyone who fly-tips in the district in line with our zero-tolerance approach to illegal dumping. Offenders risk a prison sentence of up to five years and this man will receive a criminal record for his actions.
“Fly-tipping has a hugely negative impact on our rural communities, as well as causing untold harm to the local environment and wildlife. We continue to ask for the help of the public as witnesses as we pursue fly-tippers in the Winchester district.”
Flytipping can be reported to Winchester City Council online by using the Your Winchester app, using a report form available from the city council website, or by calling the customer services team on 0300 300 0013.
