I share Mr Ryder's dismay (Chronicle February 8) at being compelled to watch helplessly, as the 'slow-motion train crash' on the Andover Road takes place.
What on earth were our county councillors thinking about, when they agreed to divert a main road through the new housing estate? My conjecture is that the developer wanted to generate more traffic past the new supermarket and pub, so that the prospective tenants would contribute to the cost of their construction. Can any Chronicle reader offer any other suggestion?
Even if ITV makes a drama about this, we shall probably never know the answer. All we can be certain about, is that the perpetrators will go unpunished, their victims will continue to suffer, and the taxpayer will foot the bill.
