A COMPANY, which leases pubs across the country, is hoping to find new landlords for one of Winchester’s last independent pubs which closed at the end of the summer.
The Wellington Pub Company has submitted a new premises licence application to Winchester City Council to re-open The Rising Sun in Bridge Street.
The company describes itself as the ‘largest free of tie pub estate in the UK’. It currently has pubs such as The Crown Inn in Upton, near Andover, and Renaissant in Newbury available to lease.

The application, submitted to the city council last month, is for permission to have play live and recorded music and supply alcohol between 11am and midnight from Monday to Thursday, 11am to 1am on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 11.30pm on Sunday.
Former landlord of nearly a decade, Rob Plunton, was forced to close The Rising Sun due to the overwhelming costs of gas, electricity, stock and reduced trade.
Winchester City Council must receive all representations for the application by Tuesday, February 17. To view the application go to licencing portal on the city council’s website.
