The Winchester Ramblers Group had a busy start to the year, with 19 walks already throughout January, in a wide variety of weather.
As part of a drive to encourage more people to go out walking, and to support the work of the Ramblers this included an 11-mile taster ramble.
A group of 30 walkers enjoyed a cold but sunny walk from Winchester to Hursley, stopping to take in the views from Compton Down.

The Dolphin Inn served a soup and sandwich lunch. The group completed the 11-mile round trip to Winchester, rounded off by a well-earned drink and a chat by the fire in the Black Boy pub.
Richard Eve, chairman of the Winchester Ramblers Group, said: “It was great to have so many new walkers coming out with us. We have had some very positive feedback, and are delighted that several people have signed up for further walks. Some have already taken out membership of our Group, and as well as the enjoyment of walking with us, this helps us greatly as a charity in our campaigns to keep our countryside open to all and to keep fighting for the things that matter most to walkers.”
