TRAFFIC chaos is continuing to affect Winchester’s one-way system as a road is still waiting to be repaired.
As previously reported, delays occurred on St George’s Street after a pipe managed by Southern Water burst and leaked onto the road.
Workers from the company attended the scene in an attempt to solve the issue, putting traffic management in place which slowed down movement on the one-way system.
Hampshire County Council Highways said that remedial works to repair the pipe would be completed by Monday, January 22.
However, while the pipe has been repaired, there is still a hole in the road with a large amount of debris left on the road. Traffic management is still in place, with one lane closed leading to the junction of Jewry Street and St George’s Street.
It is not known when the road will be repaired.
A Southern Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for the continued disruption our work to repair a leak in St George’s Street, Winchester is causing.
“Although the leak is repaired, the next stage is to reinstate the road surface which we want to complete as soon as possible.”
