A DELIVERY company has apologised for wrongfully charging a Winchester independent restaurant £100.
UPS refunded Sergio Mitrano, owner of La Gastronomia, for an incorrect extra £100 bill for an olive oil delivery from Italy.
As previously reported, Mr Mitrano was instructed to pay £100 before he could accept his two boxes of Italian oil from UPS, despite having already paid £300 including delivery costs.

After the Chronicle asked UPS the reason behind the surprise charge, Mr Mitrano received a call saying it was a mistake and was subsequently refunded.
A spokesperson for UPS said: “Customer service is at the centre of all that we do. In this case, VAT charges were misapplied. We have been in touch with Mr Mitrano and have provided a refund, and we regret any inconvenience caused.”
However, the Italian restaurant owner is now worried the same has happened to other businesses.
He said: “Of course, I’m happy they investigated and discovered it was a mistake but it didn’t get published in the newspaper nothing would have happened. How many people have already been charged by mistake and where has all this money gone? I wish the issue was fixed for all the people, not just me.”
Mr Mitrano opened La Gastronomia in Bridge Street last February and has since expanded its seating to upstairs. The business, including a deli, was one of the first independent Italian restaurants to open in Winchester in many years. For more information go to sergiocookforyou.co.uk/.
