THEATRE Royal Winchester is kicking off 2024 with a programme of family-friendly shows.
The fun will start with an evening of circus, magic and comedy at the Hat Fair Cabaret on Sunday, January 21. This show promises to provide all the excitement of Winchester’s outdoor arts festival in the middle of winter.
February sees the return of the Amazing Bubble Man.

Taking to the stage on Sunday, February 11, this act has entertained audiences around the world with breath-taking bubbles of all shapes and sizes.
The Theatre Royal will also be welcoming a range of adaptations of stories by Julia Donaldson.
These will include Zog and the Flying Doctors (Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10) which follows a princess, a knight and a dragon who care for a poorly mermaid, a unicorn and a lion; The Gruffalo’s Child (Saturday, March 23 to Sunday, March 24), which sees the titular character ignore her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse to adventure into the deep, dark wood; Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book (Tuesday, April 2 to Wednesday, April 3) which is about a boy who loves books about pirates and tries to convince his sister that reading is fun; and The Singing Mermaid (Saturday, April 13 to Sunday, April 14) where a mermaid is tempted to join a travelling circus but is tricked by a dastardly circus master.
All of the shows will be packed with colourful puppets, music and songs, and will be suitable for children aged 3 and more.
Next, London’s world-renowned Science Museum presents The Live Stage Show on Sunday, March 17. This brand-new show aims to capture the imagination of the whole family and inspire all ages as they learn something new in exciting ways.

Based on Rod Campbell’s classic lift-the-flap book which has been enjoyed for more than 40 years, the show tells the story of Ben and Sally who write to the zoo asking for a pet.
There are more shows yet to go on sale, so audiences are asked to keep their eyes peeled on the theatre’s website – where they can also find the recommended age for each show as some may be better suited to younger children while others for older and teenagers.
