Mr Youngman, 81, of Cromwell Road, regularly cleans the plaque at the foot of the 100-year-old beech tree. The tree was planted in Stanmore by Edward VIII, the then Prince of Wales who would later become King, to mark the launch of the council estate.

The Mayor of Winchester and Mr Youngman were joined by council leader, Cllr Martin Tod and ward councillor, Cllr Jamie Scott for the presentation by the tree, just outside My Youngman's house.

November 7 marked the centenary of the tree planting and Winchester’s flagship council estate that was renowned for having front and back gardens and green spaces.
