HAVING looked at plans and drawings of the planned reconstruction of this junction I feel the new proposal is so over engineered. All that is required is to create a free flowing lane either way for the A34 working with the present road layout.
On approaching J9 from the north or south you approach Winnall roundabout uphill.
Would it not be possible to lower the A34 southbound to go under the M3. A similar thought could be applied for traffic from the M3 for A34 northbound. This could be elevated above A34 southbound under the M3. Creating a mini spaghetti junction. You could keep the slip road for Winnall and also the slip road for A34/M3 northbound.
This would be a far less expensive proposal. Far more environmentally friendly and less invasive on the fragile infrastructure of the local habitat.
