A NEW Indian takeaway has opened in Winchester.

Madan and Priya Pandey, who have run Kali Mirchi Indian Restaurant in Southampton for 13 years, opened their new business just before Christmas.

Called Desi Accent, the takeaway is located on Wavell Way, Stanmore, and will serve the same food as at Kali Mirchi. The business will also provide delivery options and outdoor catering.

Madan told the Chronicle: “The idea is we are trying to establish two different businesses, Kali Mirchi is a restaurant and takeaway, and Desi Accent will be just a takeaway only. I thought it would be better to create another brand name which runs parallel to Kali Mirchi, as the two businesses are different.

“We opened a few days before Christmas, we thought it would be better to do a soft opening and then let people know. It allowed us to get settled first and allow us to cope with orders and deliver the same quality of food that we are known for.

“Now we are settled down, we’re ready to spread the word that we are here and take some orders.”

Madan said that he was excited to open Desi Accent in Winchester, saying: “Winchester is a very historical city with lots of culture, and it’s not very far from Southampton as well.

“The people are very nice and very supportive, and the city isn’t huge. This means that, even if we aren’t in the city centre, we can still serve the whole city, the whole of Winchester. The part of Winchester we have chosen has a lot of restaurants and takeaways as well, so there should be a lot of foot fall.”

The Pandeys are hoping to expand both businesses in the future.
