A NEW creative space for artists, courses and events has opened above a city centre cafe.
The Studio, above South Downs Social in Kings Walk, has space for five artists to experiment with ideas, collaborate and sell work.
A launch event was held when the artists could showcase their offerings.
There was painting, jewellery, crafts and more. A creative workshop was also held, giving people tehe chance to showcase their talents.
One of the artists with a small workshop at The Studio is David Birks. He said: “The artists here are mutually supported and inspired by each other. Being in a community of artists helps.

“Also, because you have people coming up here and having teas and coffees, they ask you lovely questions. That opens up ideas, so you get inspiration.
“It's also on my doorstep, I walk here and it's nine minutes door-to-door. It's lovely to be in the heart of Winchester.
“Winchester has an amazing heritage of crafters and artists. I come here to experiment with ideas, I play around with ideas and make things. I'm absorbed with new creative ideas.”
South Downs Social owner Neil Wyatt said: “The Studio is our new mixed use space. We've got five artist studios and we've got amazing customer seating with floor to ceiling windows that overlook Middle Brook Street so you get to watch the world go by.
“It's just a really welcoming and flexible space which is great for events and for creative courses. It's a really interesting and different space for Winchester.”
