A VILLAGER from near Alresford has been banned for driving with excess alcohol.

Shaun Knight, 21, of Telegraph Lane, Four Marks, was stopped by officers in Petersfield after driving on Dragon Street and Crawters Lane on June 4, a court heard.

When tested he returned an alcohol reading of 54 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35.

Knight admitted the charge when he appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Thursday December 7.

The magistrates imposed a 15-month ban along with a fine of £323, a victim surcharge of £129 and £85 costs. The penalties must be paid by January 4.

The ban will be cut by 15 weeks if Knight passes an approved course by April 21.
