Patricia, (Trish) Rohini Spiers BEM was born in South Africa, where she trained as a nurse developing a sense of social responsibility and commitment which marked her life.

She had travelled extensively with her husband John through his army career before settling in Winchester, where she made significant contributions to the life of the city, notably through her leadership role with the League of Hospital Friends.

Trish initiated and oversaw fundraising for projects to bring much-needed equipment. For example a scanner to the hospital.

She was a keen supporter of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air ambulance and of the local Winchester Hospice, arranging events to support these valuable causes.

Trish contributed to the life of the cathedral by becoming a concert steward with John. She played a huge role in the Cathedral festival of flowers over many years. Her dynamic energy and creativity made a significant difference to the Winchester Floral Design Society of which she was chairman. One of the oldest societies in the country Winchester Floral Design Society became a thriving group under her leadership and working with her friend, Doreen Jenkins, Trish gained a silver gilt medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.

She was an inspirational and imaginative, flower arranger and notably at St Cross chapel, where she led the Guild of flower arrangers with flair, and demonstrating artistry through her creative art.

Trish excelled with designs for weddings and special occasions, transforming the chapel at Christmas and celebrating its architectural beauty with Flowers and foliage throughout the seasons.

She masterminded two Flower Festivals entitled St Cross in bloom raising a total of £30,000 for the new heating system and the repair of the organ.

Trish is lovingly and gratefully remembered. She will continue to be appreciated and much missed by all who are privileged to know her.
